Blacklight Shelf

Blacklight Shelf
Ideal to make your potions and bottles glow.

What you need:
  • 1X4X8 (you can adjust the size according to how long you want your shelf to be/how may potion bottles you have. My shelf is 3 feet long).
  • 2 pieces of 1X3 hardboard
  •  Heavy-duty L Bracket
  •  Pieces of wood for bracing
  •  Screws
  •  Black spray paint
  •  Glow in the dark paint
Making the box

Start by cutting you 1x4x8’ into 4 pieces

2 pieces will be 1 foot in length
2 pieces will be 3 feet in length

I shaved about an inch of one of the 3 foot boards so that the back light cord could stick out of the box. You can also simply drill a hole large enough to fit the cord.

Using your small pieces of wood for bracing, screw together your box.

Bottom

Once your box is complete screw one of hardboard pieces to the bottom of the box. You will have to place the black light in the box before adding the top.

Top
Cut out a thin rectangle out of the other piece of hardboard small enough so no bottle can fall through the hole. Also, make sure your bottles can properly balance of the hole without tipping over. Once the hole is cute you can screw it on the top to make the complete box, including the blacklight inside.

Installing the L bracket

Make sure you purchase an L bracket sturdy enough to hold your box, many glass bottles and the black light. As well, I added more support under the bracket.

Painting
I choose to go with black spray paint just because it will contrast the glowing of the bottles.

The glow in the dark paint is for the bottles. You can pick up small containers of this paint at Michael’s Arts and Crafts or any other craft store. It is cheap and very effective with the blacklight.

This is an easy project and looks amazing in dark rooms.
